This is a really well written article! I think health care data is perfectly suited for cloud computing, not only to help offset hosting costs, but also in terms of making it highly accessible to health care providers across a broad spectrum.
Amazon is really extending themselves these days… first Woot! and now HIPAA.
Thanks Sarah! HIPAA has always been very expensive and hard to implement and when proven leaders like Amazon enters the bandwagon it will surely help Health Care providers and vendors like us.
Alot of people question as to if this is the right approach for Health data. One of the greatest advantages of a cloud approach is that the network, server and security headaches that exist for locally-installed client/server system are eliminated.
Eliminating IT maintenance burdens that are often beyond the reach of small medical practices, clearly add to Electronic Health Record adoption.
Overall very good article. Have buzzed it around in my office.
